"jab akelapan sataye..ya fir apne bahut bade hone ka bhram ho jaye , samundar ke saamne khare ho jana.
uski chanchal laherein kahengi tum akele kahan ho ? samundar ka vishal vistar puchhega, tum mujhse to bade nahin ho ? "Along with these words, starts the movie "Manine Gandhi ko nahin maara".It is a story of a hindi professor "Uttam chowdhary" who suffers from frequent bouts of forgetfulness. Gradually he starts forgetting everything. He forgets that he is retired..he forgets that his wife is dead..and he even forgets that he has a son. And suddenly out of blue, one day, he starts feeling that his home is a jail and he is being charged with the murder of "Mahatma Gandhi".
And in the midst of all this is the story of his daughter. A single woman, working to not only support the family monetarily, but is also the only lifeline that can save her father from drowning in the universe his mind is creating.
It is the story of the power of one person’s strength, hope and determination in pulling their loved one away from the abyss.
I wont reveal as why he started feeling that way or whether he is being cured at the end or not. But overall it was a beautiful movie. Anupam kher as Uttam Chowdhary was at his best. Every action of Kher including the way he walks, he smiles, his absentmindedness brings tears to your eyes. And Urmila as his daughter Trisha also did splendid performance. The background score was simply superb.
And last but not the least, the poem ( favourite poem of Uttam Choudhary ) which urmila recites in the end is really inspiring.

I will definitely ask my DVDwallah for this movie. And Urmila is a fabulous actress and most underutilized by Bollywood.

This is a truly amazing performance by all, may it be the actors or the director.
Must watch !! Call it a real masterpiece by the legend Anupam Kher.

I recently watched this movie on Television. It happened by accident as I went to my friends’ house for dinner. When everybody slept, (I usually sleep very latest,sometimes in the morning :):)) I started browsing through the channels and on SetMax this movie was being screened. I had heard about this movie before but never got a chance to watch. but believe me it was surely worth the wait.. After a really long time, I had watched a really wonderful movie and regarding Anupam Kher all I can say is he is one of the most under-utilized actors in bollywood

this is the best movie on Gandhi, though one may not adhere to his philosophies, its about the development of self. but because the show is not as grand as Lage Raho…people dint count it…..watch it to feel what you can change within you……100 marks to anupam kher the greatest actor …….urmila a commendable role after Ek Hasina thi…
